The term MovieStars refers to a group of well known actors and actresses who have made appearances in films and on television. These stars have also played a variety of different roles. They include Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise, Theda Bara, and Paul Newman.
Early Hollywood stars
The early Hollywood stars were often scrutinized through their contributions to film history. However, the experiences of these stars may surprise you. They came from a time when divorce was still a taboo.
While divorce was still considered a taboo, pregnancy outside of marriage was even more so. And while it was illegal to have an abortion, many studios kept abortionists on payroll. And, of course, sexual immorality was a widespread practice.
The casting couch was a common event, hosted by studio executives. Aspiring starlets were often put through a makeover. The women would be given a new name and a hairstyle. They were also expected to provide sexual services for male attendees.
Burt Lancaster and Harold Hecht
During the 50s and 60s, MovieStars Burt Lancaster and Harold Hecht produced some of the best commercial hits. Their production company was one of the most successful independent companies in Hollywood. In their later years, the duo focused on more complex roles and varied genres.
Hecht and Lancaster worked together on a number of projects, and they also made their own films. Norma Productions, a division of Hecht and Lancaster’s company, produced several widescreen westerns, such as Vera Cruz and Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Norma Productions was formed in 1948 with the aid of John Ford. After two years, Hecht and Lancaster signed a two-picture deal with Columbia Pictures. The company then changed its name to Hecht-Lancaster Productions.
Theda Bara
Theda Bara is remembered for her unique theatricality. She made a mark in Hollywood as the first “Vamp.” She starred in 39 films for Fox Studios between 1915 and 1919. She was known for her unusual costumes and headdresses, which included skulls and flowers. Despite her popularity, her career was short-lived. She died from stomach cancer in 1955.
Theda Bara was born on July 29, 1885, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her father was a Jewish tailor from Poland. She had two younger siblings. Her mother was a native of Switzerland. Upon her graduation from high school, Theda moved to New York City.
In 1914, Theda became an extra in The Stain. The next year she took on the lead in A Fool There Was. She also appeared in The Blue Flame, a Broadway production.
Paul Newman
The HBO documentary The Last Movie Stars focuses on the life of actor Paul Newman. The film includes clips from his films, Zoom interviews with his former colleagues and friends, and other archival footage.
Despite the celebrity that surrounds Paul Newman, the documentary reveals that he was a modest man. He was a dedicated husband, father, and race car driver. He donated every penny of his income to charity. He founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camps and the Newman’s Own food line. He had three children with Joanne Woodward.
Paul and Joanne Woodward met when he was an understudy on William Inge’s 1953 romantic drama Picnic. The pair worked together on sixteen movies. They later married. The couple had three daughters. They were nominated for the Golden Globe and the New York Film Critics Circle Awards for their acting.
Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington is one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood. He has earned more than a billion dollars in box office grosses. His performances have been incredible, and he has earned nine Oscar nominations and three Golden Globes.
He started his career as a stage actor. His early roles were compelling and melancholy. His career evolved in the mid-1980s, and he began to appear in films. He has worked with directors including Spike Lee, Tony Scott, Edward Zwick, and Carl Franklin. He is also a producer and writer.
In 2002, Denzel made his directorial debut with the movie Antwone Fisher. The film tells the story of a troubled naval recruit. After a fight, he is sent to a psychiatrist. As he opens up, Jerome Davenport gradually reveals details of his childhood.
Tom Cruise
When we look at Tom Cruise in MovieStars, it is easy to imagine that he is a legend of sorts. With forty films to his name, a list of collaborations with celebrated film directors like Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick, and a fan following that reaches millions, he’s one of the few stars who has survived for three decades.
Tom Cruise’s biggest project has been the Mission: Impossible series. This franchise has bolstered his career during shaky times.
Despite the fact that he hasn’t gotten a lot of recognition for his other films, he’s made a few movies that stand up. His performance in “Taps” in 1981 garnered a fair amount of praise. It was also his first Oscar nomination.
