Seeing rats inside your house can be nerve-wracking. Such rodents can invade your garage and nest. When they are inside, they can cause all sorts of property damage. As a homeowner, you can protect your property from these unwanted guests by working with rat pest control experts.

Reasons Rats May Invade Your Garage

Rats may take up residence in your garage to protect themselves from the elements or cold outside. Your garage can offer the perfect shelter for rats due to less foot traffic inside it. Some people use the garage only as storage.

Other garages are detached from the main house, offering rats a quiet sanctuary. Usually, a garage has food sources and possible nesting materials. Also, it may have many small hiding spots for rats to burrow. You should work with rodent control experts to come up with a solid rat control plan.

How to Keep Rats Out of Your Garage

To make sure rats do not set up shop in your garage, follow these tips:

    • Keep the garage clean and clutter-free. Clean up the garage and declutter it. Usually, this space is a convenient location for storing items you cannot fit in your house. Over time, when these items pile up, they can create clutter that rats love. To ensure the clutter does not get out of control, develop an organized storage shelving system. Store everything neatly here.
    • Put food away. Leaving food out in the garage is the perfect way to draw rats into the space. if you should store pet food in the garage, ensure you use solid containers. Think about moving other food items to another location inside your house. If the garage is not temperature-controlled, the stored food there can get spoilt, producing a smell that attracts rats.
    • Fix damaged doors. Check the doors in your garage for damage. These doors can deter rats if they close fully and efficiently. Broken garage doors are an invitation for rats and other rodents.
    • Seal up entry points. Once you have ensured the doors in the garage are working properly, check for possible entry points around the space. while rats are bigger than other rodents, they still fit into small gaps around the windows, doors, and foundation. A technician can close up entry points with caulk. If any pests have gotten inside and begun nesting, the technician can concentrate on elimination.

Rodent pest control is a process that includes several steps. Experts will locate the infestation source first and treat it. Then, they get rid of any rodents. Lastly, they sanitize and clean the affected space.
